Diwali is that time of the year when energy is high all around. You try your best to ensure that everything around you looks as beautiful as you. Now that won't happen if your house has an accumulation of all things unnecessary, will it?
Take out all that you don't need, make place for the new. Make your home and mind a happy place.
After all, Diwali is for new beginnings, isn't it?
Here are some quick decluttering tips that will help you make your home neat and tidy:
1) Let it out:
Trying to clear out a closet, cupboard or a book shelf is a herculean task if you don't know what's buried deep inside. The only way to clean it up is to take it all out.
Put everything on the floor. Once you see what all has been stocking up inside, it will be easier to see what you find and what you don't.
2) Lucky Number Three:
The easiest way to decide what to keep and what to throw is to make divisions. Have 3 buckets or bags, labelled ''Charity'', ''Good condition but not needed'' and ''Keep''.
Depending on the usefulness and condition of the product, you can decide what to do with it. The ones that are quite worn out can go to charity, the ones in good condition can be sold on Elanic and the ones you really need can go in ''Keep''.
Easy, isn't it?
3) Emotions are for fools:
Well, we understand that you have certain memories attached to your beloved belongings, but being emotional isn't going to serve any purpose here.
Stop mooning over that book that your dad got for you or the lamp you received as a wedding gift. If you don't use it, you don't need it. Period.
4) Do some introspection:
This is another easy-peasy way to determine the worth of your belongings. As yourself this very important question: When was the last time I used this?. If you don't remember or if the answer is ''Way too long ago'', it has gotta go. We say: Give it a 2 month window. If you haven't remembered it or used it in the last 2 months, you don't need it.
5) Organize like a pro:
Closet organizers may seem too much for you, but it's there for a reason. Investing in a few organizers like make up boxes, shoe racks, drawers with compartments etc will help you stay organized like a boss.
Declutter and re-arrange to have the tidiest and most organized space!
6) Decluttering can't be fun, said who?:
Cleaning up may seem like a tedious and boring process, but it doesn't have to be. Instead of dreading it, you should look forward to it. Play music that gives you an energy boost, invite your friends or family to help you out and just have fun while doing it.
At the end of the day, reward yourself to some shopping or some good food (you deserve it!)
What are you going to do with all the stuff you don't need, you ask?
Simple. Sell it on Elanic! Sell it, make money and shop some more. Amazing mantra, isn't it?
